Build an effective and ecological calabrone trap

Express, leave a note

Frelon are parasites that can cause many problems, both for our health and for biodiversity. In order to prevent them from establishing close to our homes or in our gardens, it is necessary to set adequate solutions. One of these is to create an efficient and ecological cable trap. Here's how to perform this operation in some simple steps.

Material and preparation

To build a powerful trap in Calabrone, you will need some common elements that are probably already at home:

  • An empty plastic bottle (type of 2 -liter soda bottle)
  • A cutter or a pair of scissors
  • A few meters of fine thread (or solid cable)
  • adhesive tape
  • The bait, consisting of a sweet and fragrant mixture (for example: 200 ml of water, 50 g of sugar and 20 ml of syrup, or about 80-100 ml of brown beer)

Before starting, remember to carefully clean the bottle to eliminate any residue that can stop Hornets.

Find out how to create your Asian Calabrone trap in some simple and effective passages.

Step 1: Cut the bottle to create the trap

First, take a cutter or scissor. You will have to cut the bottle into two parts according to a horizontal line located about a third of its total height. Do not hesitate to take several tests on different bottles to find the best configuration.

You will get two pieces:

  • the lower part (made up of the bottom and the walls of the bottle), the height of which must be slightly greater than that of the final trap;
  • the upper part (including the opening and neck of the bottle).

Step 2: assemble the two parts of the trap

As soon as you cut the bottle, it is time to assemble both sides to create the trap of the hornet. To do this, turn the top simply so that the neck is directed downwards and place it inside the lower part.

Therefore, the neck will act as entry into the trap and prevent the Hornet from going out once you enter. To keep the two parts together, cover the external edges of the upper part with adhesive tape and fix it solidly to the internal walls of the lower part.

You can also create another type of trap by cutting a small crack on the side side of the lower part to simulate a side entrance. The latter must be small enough to prevent Hornet from getting out, but wide enough to allow them to access it. The two types of traps are equally effective than the other and can be used simultaneously to increase the acquisition speed.

On the other hand, it is a way to effectively recycle its plastic cans.

Step 3: Prepare the bait

Then prepare your sweet and fragrant mixture to attract the Calabri to the trap. It is important to avoid diluting too much this mixture in water or use excessive quantities of sugar or syrup, since this could decrease its effectiveness.

To obtain a good result with this bait, you will have to associate several flavors to maximize the chances of seducing Hornets. Also, be sure to regularly renew the contents of your trap (at least once a week), because it may not miss efficiency.

Step 4: install and monitor the trapStep 4: install and monitor the trap

Step 4: install and monitor the trap

Finally, suspend the trap of the height in height thanks to the fine iron wire or the solid cord. Tie a piece of enough thread around the bottle of the bottle and fix the other end on a tree, a post or another solid support located in height. It is possible to prevent other insects (such as butterflies) from accessing the trap and prevent animals from being disturbed by the device.

Once the trap has been installed, you regularly check your conditions to see its effectiveness and possibly make improvements to its design. Furthermore, do not forget to be alert by keeping you at a reasonable distance from the trap, because some hornets can be dangerous for humans.

Following these simple steps, you will have an efficient and ecological trap for Calabri that will allow you to preserve the tranquility of your garden by protecting the environment.
